18. 3. 2025.

As the mandated institution of Croatia in the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) and the coordinator of the Croatian Open Science Cloud, SRCE traditionally dedicates part of the SRCE DEI conference program to strengthening the implementation of EOSC and open science practices in Croatia.

On the second day of the SRCE DEI 2025 conference, the event "Open Science and EOSC: From Principles to Practice" will take place, structured in two parts. The first part will feature representatives from the European Commission, the EOSC Association, the EOSC Steering Board, and the Ministry of Science, Education, and Youth, who will discuss key topics related to the development of open science, the current state of affairs in the EU, and future plans of the European Commission and EOSC.

Speakers in this session will include:

  • Ivan Marić, University of Zagreb University Computing Centre: "Introduction & Welcome, State of Play in Croatia"
  • Ph.D. Hrvoje Meštrić, Ministry of Science, Education, and Youth of the Republic of Croatia
  • Ph.D. Nina Begičević Ređep, University of Zagreb Faculty of Organization and Informatics
  • Miroslav Rajter, University of Zagreb Faculty of Law: "Open Science Policy at the University of Zagreb"
  • Stefan Liebler, European Commission, DG Research & Innovation, Unit A4 Open Science & Research Infrastructures: "Digitalisation of European Research: Building the EOSC Federation"
  • Ph.D. Klaus Tochtermann, EOSC Association, Board of Directors: "Towards the EOSC Federation - Current Status and Next Steps"

The second part of the event will focus on concrete examples of best practices in developing open science in Croatia from various perspectives.

Participants in this session will gain insights into research conducted by the Penkala Association, which focuses on analyzing perceptions, experiences, and practices related to open science within the Croatian scientific community, with a particular emphasis on young researchers at different stages of their scientific careers. The discussion will also cover the use of open licenses for different types of content, as well as practices aimed at increasing the efficiency and usability of scientific research. Additionally, participants will learn about the benefits that the Research Data Alliance offers to scientists and researchers.
