SRCE is working on educating data experts in the field of open science

6. 3. 2025.

As part of the Slovenian project SPOZNAJ, the first round of training for data experts supporting the strengthening of open science principles has been completed.

Data stewards or data librarians are specialized professionals responsible for preparing and processing data, including selection, storage, preservation, documentation of provenance, and other metadata relevant for dissemination. Their role in reinforcing open science is significant, encompassing the implementation of FAIR and CARE principles, as well as providing support to scientists and researchers in handling research data, including the discovery and reuse of existing datasets through EOSC services and ecosystems.

The first phase of training within the SPOZNAJ project focused on the fundamentals of open science, the roles of data professionals, access to open scientific publications, and legal aspects such as copyright and GDPR compliance. The second phase covered topics such as research data management, data formats, and metadata, while the final phase was dedicated to practical aspects, including working with databases, developing Data Management Plans (DMPs), and using tools such as GIS, Python, R, and GitHub/GitLab.

At the invitation of the project coordinators, SRCE also participated in the training with its representative, aiming to further strengthen the national system supporting the implementation of open science principles in Croatia. SRCE provides this support as the coordinator of the Croatian Open Science Cloud (HR-OOZ) and as a mandated organization within the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).
