The Internet telephony (VoIP) service enables the use of a virtual IP telephone exchange in SRCE, which simplifies and lowers the cost of using telephony services for the University of Zagreb. Fixed voice communication takes place using user devices (IP telephones) at the locations of the components of the University of Zagreb, and the functionality of IP telephone exchanges (IP PBX) is enabled at the locations of SRCE.
The aim of the service is to enable uniform, reliable and cheaper voice communication for University employees at as many locations as possible at the University of Zagreb. The service is provided by SRCE in cooperation with member institutions. In addition to reducing the cost of voice communication, the service provides member institutions with savings in the maintenance segment of commercial PBX solutions. A user institution that has several locations connects all its locations to the same IP telephone exchange, which makes calls between all locations local and therefore free.
The virtual IP telephone exchange at seven institutions serves more than 700 user phones per year, through which more than 150,000 calls are made.
Limitation of the scope of service provision
Due to limited resources and in accordance with Article 3 of the Rulebook on the use of the virtual IP telephone exchange service in Src, we will continue to provide IP telephony maintenance only to existing members of the VoIP service.
